What’s the secret to getting rich?

Sometimes I feel bad when a young, hopeful new investor comes to me as though I’m a guru sitting atop a Himalayan mountain and they’ve just finished a months long trek to find me. They eagerly ask for the elusive secret to becoming rich. And I disappoint them with this boring advice. ‎

Here’s the big secret: There is no secret. Spend less than you make. Invest the difference. Keep doing that for a few decades and you’ll be rich. Keep seeking overnight success and you’ll likely still be broke decades later. Then when you ask your rich friends how they did it, they’ll say they spent less than they made and invested the difference. ‎

Get started now. In 20 years you’ll be very glad you did.‎

As always, reminding you to build wealth by following the two PFC rules: 1.) Live below your means and 2.) Invest early and often.‎

It would serve as an illustration of how the financial benefit of owning is really only reaped after many years of ownership.‎
