How much money do those 10 dudes have combined? This much: $1,329,300,000,000. That’s $1.3 TRILLION dollars. The words million, billion, and trillion all rhyme but their similarities end there. A billion is a LOT more than a million (1,000 times more). And a trillion is a LOT more than a billion (a 1,000 times more). That means if you have a MILLION dollars, in order to get to a trillion you need to turn each dollar bill in that massive stack into its OWN MILLION.
We know the names of the 10 wealthiest Americans: Elon Musk (Tesla), Jeff Bezos (Amazon), Larry Ellison (Oracle), Warren Buffet, Larry Page (Google), Bill Gates (Microsoft), Sergey Brin (Google), Mark Zuckerberg (Facebook), Steve Ballmer (Microsoft) and Michael Bloomberg. But their numbers are small (10) compared to the rest of the country (330,000,000).
What do you do with this information? Voting is a good start. No matter how much we have, we all get one vote. Money has an undue influence, but at the end of the day it all comes down to votes.
What if YOU want to become a billionaire? Living below your means and buying index funds isn’t gonna get you there. The list of millionaires is dominated by savers and investors. But the list of billionaires contains business founders and their children. The combination of saving, investing, and entrepreneurship is a pretty darn three legged stool of building wealth. It’s what I do!
As always, reminding you to build wealth by following the two PFC rules: 1.) Live below your means and 2.) Invest early and often. (And starting a company could help too!)
