Travel hacks to save money on your next trip

Travel is a luxury and it’s hard to justify it as a smart financial decision. But it doesn’t have to be all or nothing – you can have priceless experiences AND be frugal at the same time. It just requires some creativity which may lead to an even more memorable trip.

If you are adventurous enough, consider a hostel (they have private rooms!), housesitting, or even Couchsurfing. They are dirt cheap (or free) and you will meet great people who have unique stories to tell.

To get free flights and hotels, get a travel credit card and use it to pay for all your expenses. (Credit card points are also how people fly in business class without paying thousands of dollars!) We aren’t the best at travel hacking but @aunt.kara and @maxmilespoints are great accounts to follow to learn from!

And lastly, embrace living like a local by going to the grocery store and taking public transportation. Not only does it save tons of money, it’s a great way to open your mind and learn about a culture.

If travel is important to you, think of it as an investment in your well being and your personal growth. Find a way to balance frugality and travel – you’ll be rich in both money and experiences.

As always, reminding you to build wealth by following the two PFC rules: 1.) Live below your means and 2.) Invest early and often.
